Preschool in Elliðaárdalur

At Rafstöðvarvegur 7a in Elliðaárdalur, Laki is building a new preschool for the City of Reykjavík. The building is designed by HJARK architects and built together with Nuconic. The setting is exceptional, in a wooded valley in the heart of the city, surrounded by nature and open space.

Key information

The preschool is 1,920 square metres, with seven departments and room for 120 children. The design is by HJARK architects. On the upper floor, partly covered play balconies and colourful steel beams give the building its character and a warm appearance.

‍

The preschool is well placed for the eastern part of the city, with easy access for those travelling through Ártúnsbrekka and for the growing neighbourhoods at Höfði and Bryggjuhverfi.

‍

The building is constructed using steel-frame technology, with units built indoors under the best possible conditions and assembled on site. The method delivers fast construction, greater predictability and high quality standards. Nuconic is building the property and Lumex is responsible for the lighting design. Completion is expected in September 2026.
